Leadership Intensive Program

Strengthening leadership capabilities in the family violence sector

The Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence prompted a period of unprecedented growth and transformation within the Victorian family violence sector. In 2018, the Institute identified an urgent need for advanced leadership training for existing sector leaders to ensure they had the knowledge and capabilities required to navigate the rapidly changing landscape. We launched our Leadership Intensive Program to meet this need. Covering topics such as Trauma-informed Leadership, Feminist Leadership Practice, and Leadership in a Time of Crisis, our responsive curriculum approach enabled sector leaders to shape the content and delivery of the course to meet their individual needs. Distinguished guest speakers included former Chief Commissioner of the Victoria Police, Christine Nixon, CEO of VCOSS, Emma King, Co-founder of the Safe Schools Coalition Victoria, Roz Ward, renowned feminist academic Professor Pavla Miller and best-selling author, workplace wellbeing teacher and playful change activator Michelle McQuaid.

Our Leadership Intensive Program delivered leadership training to over 450 Victorian family violence leaders across metropolitan and regional Victoria. It strengthened leadership capabilities within the sector and supported workforce growth and development.  To allow leaders to continue supporting each other and growing together, the Leadership Intensive Network was established in 2019, which has since been transitioned into a Leadership Network with our partners at Safe and Equal.
