An Introduction to the Disability Sector

Building the next generation of disability support workers in Victoria

The Institute is partnering with Yooralla and Possability to develop and deliver a “Taster Program” for Victorian disability support workers. The program aims to attract new workers to the disability workforce by providing an easily accessible introduction to the Disability Service Worker role. Running over three days, it is being delivered face-to-face at participating organisations’ training facilities and includes a range of targeted induction and onboarding activities. Participants in the program receive access to first-aid and CPR training, as well as the opportunity to meet with recruitment and employment representatives, people living with a disability, their support teams, operational managers, and recruitment teams to discuss available employment opportunities and application processes.

As part of the project, the Institute has developed two new, program specific, training modules to sit alongside existing training materials from Department of Health, NDIS, and Yooralla. We are also facilitating site visit reflections, close of day recaps, and question time sessions.
